Na versão original de The Equalizer, o ex-oficial de operações secretas Robert McCall foi interpretado por Edward Woodward na televisão e Denzel Washington desempenhou o papel nas telonas nos dois filmes O Protetor , marcando a primeira vez que Washington apareceu na sequência de um de seus filmes. Os dois filmes, lançados em 2014 e 2018 respectivamente, arrecadaram mais de $ 190 milhões em todo o mundo cada, com queda mínima entre os dois. Coincidentemente, Latifah entrevistou Washington em sua curta série de TV para o primeiro filme em 2014.
No episódio de estreia da 2ª temporada, assim como McCall considera encerrar seu trabalho como The Equalizer, ela recuou quando ela assumiu o Detetive Marcus Dante como um novo cliente que precisa de sua ajuda para encontrar um grupo indetectável de ladrões de banco.
