A série, inspirada na série homônima de 1975 do produtor executivo Norman Lear, segue uma família cubano-americana interpretada por Justina Machado, Rita Moreno, Isabella Gomez e Marcel Ruiz. A quarta temporada de 13 episódios encontra Penelope (Machado) explorando um relacionamento surpreendente, sua mãe Lydia (Moreno) passando por uma crise religiosa e revelando os detalhes de sua surpresa viagem a Cuba com o Dr. Berkowitz (Stephen Tobolowsky) e Schneider (Todd Grinnell) encontrando seu relacionamento com Avery (India de Beaufort) cada vez mais profundo. Enquanto isso, Elena (Gomez) começa a se preparar para a faculdade, e Alex (Ruiz) começa a namorar.
A nova temporada da comédia será a primeira a ir ao ar na rede da ViacomCBS depois de ter sido cancelada pela Netflix.
